All my life I’ve drawn and painted. While completing an Art & Design TAFE course I organised and managed several Art Exhibitions of my work combined with other invited artists. I have also taught Art to adult students over the intervening years. I’ve also completed BA (Hnrs) and Masters degrees at Edith Cowan University. The Astronomy elective I took while there was invaluable to my latest artwork – COSMIC COLLECTION: SPACE IN SHAPES currently exhibited at the Cosmology Gallery, Gravity Discovery Centre, GINGIN WA. I have an art studio at Sovereign Hill, Gabbadah, where I teach drawing and painting techniques, in Acrylic and mixed media. My focus is on using shaped canvases (oval, round, diamond, hexagonal, octagonal etc) that allow the infinite nature of space, and the eye of the viewer, to ‘go beyond’ the canvas edges. As a result of the artistic freedom provided by these shaped canvases, I create ‘open’ compositions with no visual framing. I mainly paint in Acrylic, exploring texture techniques (implied and tactile) on canvas and paper, I also supplement these works with Inks and Watercolour. I also use Charcoal, Pens, and Biros for Drawing works. I love the use of colour – the more brilliant the better – but have also produced monochromatic works, particularly with my exploration of textures. Besides my Cosmic artwork, my subjects and themes are quite varied, produced from hard-edge abstract to painterly styles, sometimes combined.
