I can remember the first time a differently abled child began year 1 in 2001, in my classroom. We held a parent teacher meeting and his mum talked to parents to explain his condition and help them understand more about him.
One parent asked, “can my child catch this?”
We’ve come such a long way since then!
I truly believe it takes a village to raise a child. When teachers, colleagues, specialists, parents all work together to support children and support each other; children with autism can have a happy and fulfilling life at school.
