My inspiration is based on Norse dragon mythology and iconography. Carving on back of the bat symbolising unity and inclusion”
The surface of the bat is prepared with acrylic paint and the design was painted using etching inks.
NA Mattila is an artist who lives in Kiama on the NSW south coast. He has worked in several mediums and is currently enjoying printmaking. Over the last few years, Neil has been exploring the practice of linoprinting on vinyl plates and intaglio etching on aluminium and zinc plates. The etching process is achieved using a non-toxic mordant of copper sulphate and common house salt dissolved in warm water. The inks used in both processes are non-toxic. Neil has recently been experimenting in monotype printing, using inks and watercolours. The inspiration for Neil’s designs comes from his observations and travels.
