It is woven Merino cloth which has been botanically dyed with foraged plants – Eucalyptus leaves, oak, plum leaves and rusty nails. I collaborated with Kiama local Sam from Sam & Sons Board Co who glassed the fabric onto the bat, as he skilfully does to refurbished timber surfboards! So, I am extremely grateful to be able to pull another local artist in to the work of this bat.
I am a weaver, spinner and botanical dyer who lives in Gerringong. I have a passion for natural fibres and using what our abundant local area provides us – be it Merino and Alpaca fleece, to native plants for botanically dying, to produce one of a kind pieces. I always feel there is more to learn in my craft, and I will humbly make it my life’s work.
