This piece painted itself. The indentation on the back created by countless knocks was reminiscent of a face in profile, so I knew immediately what I was going to paint, and that I was going to paint this bat “upside down and back-to- front.” My work in disability shows me that beauty is not always where you expect to find it, and this I see in Willo.
I am a local artist and mental health worker. I grew up with an artist mother so I have always painted, but for the last 5 years my focus has been on digital art as I was doing a degree. It was wonderful to paint again, and the cricket bat was such a joy to handle. I am grateful to have the opportunity to share my work for such an inspiring cause.
