Will and his family deliver the message that you can create anything without restriction, so when creating my bat, I decided to just go with the flow and see where inspiration took me. I used acrylic paint as a base, letting the free-flowing form of the paint take the lead, then added detail using posca pens to bring fun and colour to the piece.
Originally from NZ, Joy moved to Australia at the end of 2010, settling in Kiama in 2012. She is a self-taught artist who mostly likes to work with paint and ink. She is largely influenced by nature, culture and spirit and is drawn to all types of indigenous art from around the world.
“I love the story telling and symbolism behind indigenous art and I find the colours and techniques to be non-restrictive and close to nature. To me it feels free flowing. It comes straight from the heart and soul and out through the hands”.
