This bat depicts an enchanted garden where the tree wood of the bat is grown and when the bat is too old it will return once more to the enchanted forest of it’s origin.
August Blackman was born in Melbourne in 1957 to an artist father, Charles Blackman OBE, and writer mother, Barbara Blackman OA. He was immersed in an artistic life from birth and began carving out his own world of images and creativity at an early age. He began with painting and drawing and simultaneously perused a career as a curator and printmaker before coming to life as a professional artist. In his work, Blackman harnesses his natural training inherited from his family culture together with formal training to create his own genre of figurative expressionism. His work has been exhibited widely across Australia and is held in several private collections nationally and internationally.
